Center for New Liberalism Statement in Support of Governor Tim Walz

Washington, DC – Today, Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for president this November, announced that she has chosen Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to run alongside her on the Democratic ticket this November.

The Center for New Liberalism is releasing the following joint statement in support of Governor Walz from our Director, Colin Mortimer, and the Chair of the CNL Steering Committee, Cathy Reisenwitz:

“The Center for New Liberalism and our chapters nationwide are enthusiastic that Vice President Harris has chosen Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate. Governor Walz has the right experience, values, and record to be America’s next vice president, and we are excited to see him on the campaign trail with Vice President Harris over the next three months.

“By leaning upon Governor Walz’s record in the US House and as governor of Minnesota, the Harris-Walz ticket will have the opportunity to draw a remarkably strong contrast with the extreme, right-wing populist agenda of Donald Trump and JD Vance. As governor, Tim Walz has been a champion of the same pragmatic, center-left values we support at CNL.

“Governor Walz is a strong supporter of LGBTQ+ rights and abortion rights, and he’s passed important legislation to help end childhood hunger and poverty in Minnesota. He’s signed single-stair reform legislation, and he’s spoken about the need for permitting reform for clean energy projects. In the US House of Representatives, he has supported legislation to encourage fiscal responsibility and address climate change by reducing the barriers to nuclear energy. And, unlike Donald Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, Tim Walz believes we should support America’s democratic allies worldwide.

“Vice President Harris had a wealth of fantastic candidates to choose as her running mate, all of whom would have been excellent running mates, and all of whom have a bright future in the Democratic Party. Over the next 90 days, we are excited to do everything we can to elect Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.”
