Center for New Liberalism Signs Coalition Letter Supporting the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act

Washington, D.C. - The Center for New Liberalism has joined more than 200 pro-housing organizations to send a letter to House leadership and the House Financial Services Committee urging passage of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act.

This bipartisan legislation directly addresses America’s housing affordability crisis, which has strained renters’ budgets and made homeownership inaccessible for working families across the country. The bill would streamline permitting for housing projects, create substantive financial incentives for new residential development, and encourage density bonuses and zoning reform at the local level. Together, these changes would spark economic growth in stagnant housing markets, bringing housing costs down.

“Breaking down institutional barriers to housing construction is the most direct path to lower housing costs”, said CNL Director Colin Mortimer. “For too long, excessive regulation and outdated zoning laws have made housing harder to build, and millions of Americans have been paying the price. We’re proud to join this broad coalition of organizations in urging Congress to embrace this regulatory reform and adopt a supply-side approach to address the national housing shortage.”

The 21st Century Road to Housing Act is the kind of pragmatic, pro-growth policymaking the Center for New Liberalism believes in. Through its national advocacy and local chapter network, CNL will continue to advocate for housing policies that make housing affordable for all Americans.
